Dog People, Cat People

Dog People, Cat People

My wife Yvonne and I always considered ourselves dog people. Our first year together in California, we acquired a beautiful Airedale whom we named Agatha, after Yvonne’s favorite mystery author.

Agatha passed on, and shortly afterward we moved to Nashville, where we welcomed a Wire Fox Terrier to the household and named her Mrs. Hudson, another favorite mystery character.

When our daughter Maggie was born, we lost interest in pets. Then, years later, a grownup Maggie acquired Juno, a lovely Persian cat, and we were surprised to find ourselves attracted to this exotic, curious creature.

We cat-sat a couple of times with Juno, which gave us a chance to study her more closely. We discovered that cats are fascinating! Unlike dogs, they are mysterious. You never know what they’re thinking.

A short time ago, we took the leap and got a cat—not one but two, to keep each other company. It was a pair of what are called Ragdolls, whom we named Miss Lemon and Dr. Watson, once again for mysteries.

We brought the kittens home a week ago, and they seem to be fond of each other and of us. Part of the time they play with each other, part of the time they sleep, and part of the time they are getting to know us.

They are cute, cute, cute. And we seem to be cat people.
