Seagle Festival
As you read this, a new opera is being developed. It is Theremin, with music by my good friend Tony Plog and text by me. A workshop version of the opera will be presented at Seagle Festival in upstate New York tonight (Friday), the first version of the opera.
Seagle Festival, you may know, is the oldest American opera training facility, over 100 years old. Several years ago, the Seagle people added new operas to go with singing each summer. This summer it’s our turn.
Darren Woods and Tony Kostecki run the program. Tony is General Director of Seagle, and Darren is Artistic Director. Previously, Darren was General Director of Fort Worth Opera. Three years ago, Darren selected our family opera A Letter to Santa, and this year he selected the adult opera Theremin.
Theremin is an unusual and gripping story about a Russian inventor who created the first electronic musical instrument, and who also, amazingly, was a spy for Stalin.
Tony Plog and I will be in Schroon Lake in upstate New York, practicing and revising the current version of Theremin. We get wonderful suggestions from Darren, and look forward to improving our work.
